How to get to Nagaoka Fireworks Display, one of Japan's three major fireworks [2025 edition]

The Nagaoka Festival Fireworks Festival is held every August 2nd and 3rd in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.
The impressive fireworks and moving performances attract tourists from all over Japan.

1. Where is Nagaoka Fireworks available?

The venue is a riverbed on the Shinano River in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.
The nearest station is Nagaoka Station, and it is about 20am on foot to the venue.〜half an hour.
On the day of the tournament, there will also be a guide from the station, so you won't be confused.

2. How to get there from Tokyo

・About 1 hour and 40 minutes by Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagaoka Station ・8,000 yen one way including express train fare〜Around 9,000 yen ・Special trains may be on fireworks, but it is safe to reserve seats early.

3. How to get there from Kansai and Nagoya

・Take the Shinkansen to Tokyo Station and then transfer to the Joetsu Shinkansen. ・You can also use an overnight bus to directly access Niigata City or Nagaoka City. ・Turn takes approximately 6〜About 8 hours. If you're confident in your physical strength, we recommend the bus.

4. When using a highway bus

・Night and daytime buses to Nagaoka operate from Tokyo Station, Shinjuku Station, Ikebukuro Station, etc. ・Turn takes about 5〜6 hours, 3,000 yen one way〜Approximately 5,000 yen (early bird discount available) ・After arriving, you can walk to the venue from the station, but we recommend moving early.

Nagaoka Fireworks is one of the most moving events in Japan, and is an event you should definitely watch at least once.
If you prepare your access and accommodation in advance, you can enjoy the fullest on the day.
